Custom Swingaxle

This sandrail is owned and operated by Todd Bryan (aka SandRazor, that's me.) I'm not really sure exactly how old it is but my father bought it used in the mid-80's and it was old then. Being fifteen at the time, this machine saw plenty of action. We drove it until it dropped. In 1992, I purchased a Yamaha Banshee and my father had a FourTrax 250R, so we decided to park the old Chenowth in the yard to wither away from the elements. Restoration started in 1997. Dad was more than willing to help with the rebuild but showed no interest in the new life we were breathing into the old rail. He kept making comments like, "You have a family now, you guys enjoy it." One night after work when the powder-coating was done and the frame was in Dads driveway on blocks. I brought over the polished aluminum wheels and tires and my brother and I quickly bolted them up so we could see how everything matched up. Just then, Dad drove up the driveway after his day at work. He jumped out of the truck and yelled, "Holy Shit! Look at my buggy!" He was hooked again! So we rebuilt this car from the ground up.

The frame is a rear-engine, powdered-coated, Chenowth chassis. A strong 1835cc with an single 40mm Weber carburetor provides the power. I also run 040 heads with oversized valves, an 091 distributor, high performance cam, lightened flywheel and Tri-mil exhaust with a Camco muffler. I run an ITS built 4 speed VW swing-axle tranny with a 4:86 ring & pinion and a custom shifter. Other modifications include an aluminum front beam, Neal peddles and cutting brakes, Sand Tires Unlimited paddle tires on the rear and generic smoothies up front. This car has plenty of chrome and polished aluminum and a beautiful blue powder-coat. You can still see us enjoying this rail in the Gordons Well area on quiet weekends.
